Education & Training

2004-2008 B.S. KAIST (Department of Biological Sciences)

2008-2010 M.S. KAIST (Gou Young Koh's lab)

2013-2018 Ph.D. Rockefeller University (Elaine Fuchs's lab)

2018-2020 Postdoc. Rockefeller University (Elaine Fuchs's lab)

Yeong Chan Ryu

Postdoctoral Fellow (NRF Postdoctoral Fellowship)

I received B.S. and Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Yonsei University.

During my Ph.D., I researched the development of Wnt activators to treat hair loss via activating hair follicle stem cells.

In the Yang lab, I'm interested in the regulation of stem cell niches for skin regeneration.

Graduate Student (Asan Foundation Biomedical Science Graduate Fellow)

I got a BS at KAIST as a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Computer science.

I wonder how cell fates can be altered and regulated dynamically and want to solve these questions with adult stem cells and bioinformatics.

Graduate Student (Donghwa Industry Foundation Graduate Fellow)

I majored in biology at KAIST. I am highly interested in tissue regeneration of the endometrium epithelium because it is very dynamic and regenerative.

Graduate Student

I received a B.S. in biological science at KAIST. It is interesting to figure out how the stem cells affected by their niches and how they can play an active role in their niche formation. I want to study how stem cells respond to environment changes and investigate the biological meaning of it.

Graduate Student

I received B.S. in Biological Sciences from KAIST. I want to understand the dynamic interaction of adult stem cells and their niche and how it is properly regulated. I hope my research journey will improve our understanding of tissue regeneration and help others who suffer from limited regeneration ability.

Stem cells reside in the unique microenvironment called the SC niche.

Their interactions are bidirectional and must be tightly regulated to conduct proper stem cell behaviors.

Then, how stem cells maintain their identities within dynamic SC-niches, and what makes them differentiate into specific cell types?

I have stepped up to answer this intriguing question.

Jiwon Lim

Graduate Student

I received B.S. in Biological Sciences from Yonsei University.

I am interested in the molecular mechanisms of tissue regeneration and related diseases, as they hold valuable insights for unresolved questions.

Through my research, I hope to contribute to the development of treatments for skin diseases.

Seungeun Roh

Graduate Student (Sosun Foundation Graduate Fellow)

I graduated from KAIST with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Computer Science. Since I was young, I have been fascinated with stem cells and their regenerative system in organisms. To investigate them, I am also focusing on organoid system and trying to make more in-vivo-like system using them. My major work is  studying endometrium epithelial physiology using organoid.
